Areas

Southampton, the water, and the towns north, west and east

Google's map moves with the phone, so a city built along two rivers and a motorway has five or six maps rather than one. This page says where we work and how each part searches. Road miles are from the city centre.

In the city

Five map centres, each with its own first page

  1. 01

    The waterfront

Ocean Village, the terminals, Town Quay, Woolston across the Itchen. Marine firms, the cruise trade, the hotels and the restaurants that live on sailing days.

  2. 02

    The centre and Bedford Place

Above Bar, the Cultural Quarter, the offices, the evening trade. Searches from people working in the city as much as living in it.

  3. 03

    Portswood and Highfield

The university's own map: students, letting agents, dentists taking new patients, cafés, the practices near the campus.

  4. 04

    Shirley, Millbrook and Redbridge

The biggest residential map on the west side: home services, garages, the trades, the family clinics.

  5. 05

    Bitterne, Sholing and Bassett

The east and the north: the same home services with less competition, and the map centres most trades forget to claim.

The districts in full: Ocean Village, Bedford Place, Portswood, Shirley, Bitterne, Woolston, Sholing, Bassett, Swaythling, Millbrook, Redbridge, Highfield.

Outside the city

The towns, by direction and by road

North

  • Eastleigh6 miles
  • Romsey9 miles
  • Winchester13 miles

The M3 corridor. Eastleigh is close enough to share a service area; Winchester is its own city and its own map.

West

  • Totton5 miles
  • Lyndhurst10 miles

Across the Test into the New Forest edge. Totton searches like a Southampton suburb; Lyndhurst like a village with a visitor trade.

East

  • Hedge End6 miles
  • Hamble7 miles
  • Fareham12 miles

The M27 side. Hedge End is a retail and trades market of its own; Hamble is the marine trade; Fareham sits between us and Portsmouth.

One page or a second profile

The rule we apply to every town

A business gets a second profile when it has a second base, and one honest page when it drives there. Nothing in between, because the in-between is what gets profiles suspended and pages filtered.

Your situationWhat we build
One base in Southampton, vans to the townsOne profile with the service area drawn honestly; one areas page naming the towns with distances and the jobs done there.
A second base with staff, in Eastleigh or FarehamA second profile for that base and a page set for it: the Multi-area tier.
A base outside the city, work in itThe profile for your town first; the Southampton pages when the reviews and the jobs can carry them.
A marine firm on the HambleThe profile at the yard; pages by the water and the make, because that is how owners search.

Questions about where we work

Do you build a page for each town?

No. One areas page on our own site, and on a client's site one page for the towns they genuinely serve, with the distances and the jobs done there. A page per town with the name swapped is what Google filters as doorway pages, and when the filter lands it takes the good pages with it.

My business is in Eastleigh, not Southampton. Are you the right people?

Yes. Eastleigh, Totton and Hedge End are the maps we start most trades in, because the city-centre map is the hardest in Hampshire. The profile is built for your town, the pages name it, and Southampton comes later if you work there.

When does a business need a second profile?

When it has a second base with staff in it, an address customers visit or a van that starts from there. A second profile for a town you drive to from Southampton breaks Google's rules and gets both suspended. The service area and the areas page do that job honestly.

Do you work outside these towns?

For the monthly SEO, Southampton and the towns listed. For a website, anywhere in the UK, because the build does not depend on the map.
