Our own site
This site, five weeks in: what Search Console shows, and what we are doing about it
We tell Southampton businesses not to judge a new site before day 90, so here is ours at day 35, with the numbers Search Console actually shows rather than the ones a case study would choose. It is the only Southampton account we have, it is us, and it is published so you can see what a new site looks like from the inside before anyone has spent money on it.
The short version: Google is showing the site 847 times a month and nobody has clicked yet, because the average position is 75. One search is close, ten new pages are three days old, and the rest is waiting.

What the 30 days say
Impressions up 247%, clicks nil, position 75
Between 4 September and 3 October the site appeared in 847 searches, against 244 in the previous window. That is the shape of a new domain being discovered: Google tries the pages on searches, mostly far down the page, and watches what happens. The average position across everything was 75.5, up from 83.9. Nobody clicks at position 75, and nobody did.
The one search that matters is “seo southampton”, about 260 searches a month in Google’s Keyword Planner, where the home page sat at 25.3 on 65 impressions. That is the term the site is built for and page three is where a five-week-old site should be. The web design pages are further back, at 85 and beyond, for “southampton web design” (720 a month), and that gap is the honest measure of how far there is to go.
| Page | Impressions | Position | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| / | 68 | 28.8 | The home page is the only page Google tries on the head terms yet |
| /about | 287 | 84.6 | Shown for Southampton street-name searches (31 Eastgate Street, Bishops Road). Worth nothing; we are not chasing them |
| /pricing | 248 | 87.7 | Tried on agency-price searches far down the page |
| /quote | 95 | 87.7 | Same pattern |
| /guides/how-much-should-a-southampton-business-spend-on-seo | 19 | 7.3 | The first page on page one, for a long question, which is how it usually starts |
The index
26 of 33 pages indexed, 3 discovered and not yet indexed, 4 unknown
On 6 October we inspected every URL in the sitemap through Search Console’s URL Inspection. 26 are indexed. Three are “discovered, currently not indexed”: the marine website design page, the yacht broker page and the GDC checklist guide. Four are not yet known to Google at all; they are among the ten specialist pages published on the evening of 2 October, three days before the read. None of that is a fault. Google decides when to crawl a page it has discovered, and on a new domain it takes its time.
What would be a fault is a page sitting in “discovered, not indexed” for months, which usually means Google has read it, judged it too close to another page, and declined. We measured the ten specialist pages against each other before publishing: masked-trigram similarity under 0.35, so each page is about its own trade. If a page is still waiting in December, that is the first thing we re-measure.
| Date | What changed | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Sep | Site live: 23 pages | The launch size: home, services, six guides, pricing, about, quote, legal |
| 2 Oct | Ten specialist pages and three regulator guides published; sitemap resubmitted; IndexNow | Marine and clinic specialisms, each page about its trade, each regulator claim sourced |
| 6 Oct | Four guides and four results pages, including this one | The searches the city makes that nobody had written for: cruise season, student lettings, yacht portals, NHS dentists |
| Early Dec | The day-90 read, published here | Nothing judged before then; the rule we apply to clients applies to us |
What we expect, labelled as expectation
Page one for the long searches first, the head term later
On the sites we run in other cities the long searches arrive first: a guide at position 7 for a question with thirty searches a month, weeks before the head term moves. The guide on what a Southampton business should spend is already doing that at 7.3. We expect the four new guides to show in Search Console within weeks and to settle by the December read, and the specialist pages to be indexed by then if Google agrees they are distinct.
The head term is the slow one. “Seo southampton” at 25 is where a five-week-old site should be, and it moves with reviews, links and time rather than with another page. We are not going to publish a page a week to force it; that is how the Southampton rebuild we did for another business ended up with pages Google would not index, and it is the pattern this site exists to avoid.
Judge the method, not the story
The free audit runs the same measurements on your site
Every number on this page came from Search Console, the coverage sweep or a page-by-page crawl, and all three are free to repeat. The audit we run before quoting a Southampton business does exactly that, and you get the figures whether or not you hire us.
How to read this page
- Every number is from Search Console for this site, window 4 September to 3 October 2026, and the coverage sweep run on 6 October.
- Nothing here is a projection. Where we say what we expect, it is labelled as expectation.
- The next read is in early December, day 90. We will publish it here whatever it shows.
